DAMOCLES at dtu

Ørsted DTU (Technical University of Denmark) participates in several tasks of the European Comissions large Integrated project DAMOCLES

Developing Arctic Modelling and Observing Capabilities for Long-term Environmental Studies
The European Integrated Project DAMOCLES 2005 - 2009

Ørsted-DTU is directly or partly  responsible for the following sub-tasks:

Ice types and properties
Sea ice parameters
Surface temperature from passive microwave sensors
Emissivity studies:
Sea ice microwave emissivity from empirical studies (from satellite data).
Sea ice and snow microwave emissivity model with thermodynamic module validated with field data,  (field work with microwave radiometers)
Snow parameters on sea ice, sensitivity study.
Ice dynamics from satellite observations: both velocity and deformation fields from:
Medium resolution ice motion: from ENVISAT ASAR Global Monitoring Mode data
Arctic cyclones
Data set on the total water vapour and cloud liquid water path over the Arctic,
Data set on the surface temperature and air temperature profile over the Arctic,
Integrated retrieval of surface and atmospheric parameters from satellite radiances

Data Management
Design and implementation of the DAMOCLES database and data distribution system
